I promised you one last piece of information so here it is: I'm taking a break from pole vault for quite possibly the rest of my college career.
Why? To start, I'm tired of giving it everything I have only to be cut. I know the whole thing about how hard work can get you anything you want, but what if there comes a point where your work could get you something better? That's where I am right now in the reflection process of being cut two years in a row. All my hard work wasn't for nothing. I learned so much about myself throughout it all. But there came a point when I realized all this hard work could be utilized for something much better than trying out for a college track team who wouldn't accept me for whatever reason.
I have decided to invest my time and work into building a better me. In doing so, I believe I will be a better person and pole vaulter. Even though I won't be vaulting physically, mental reps are proven to be just as good as physical ones. I will be reading up and staying in touch with the world of vaulting, but I don't plan to compete for a little bit of time. My love for the sport has not changed one bit. I love it more and more every day, but this break is a necessity. In the mean time, I will keep you guys up to date with my workouts, I plan to post them here, or create another website or blog dedicated solely to the active part of me just minus pole vault.
With that being said, I'm not sure of the next time I'll speak to everyone here. Thanks for being with me through this process.
I'm not done pursuing yet,
Matthew J. Leinhauser
